Accidents / Week 38 / Last Dr. Appt.

Here's Harris drinking and talking on the phone. At least he isn't driving at the same time.

Harris has been watching Nick "listen" to Cara's heartbeat. Maybe he'll be a doctor when he grows up.

We were all about getting hurt this week. First Nick got smacked in the eye by his dad who was bowling on wii. Not more than 30 minutes later, he fell into a cabinet (same eye). This is minor compared to most of our black eyes.

Today I got a call from daycare while I'm in Target telling me Harris has fallen and his tooth has gone all the way through his lip. I'm in a panic, so Chris gets him and we head to the doctor. This is my second son who has been glued back together. GOOD GRIEF!!!

Harris is mad because we were looking at his lip, not because of the pain.

At least it was this Monday instead of next.

I'm trying to hold him down.

Week 38

Week 39 Appointment Update:
No change. I'm still at 2 cm. Blood pressure good, but my iron count is back down. It's doubtful I'll go in to labor on my own based on my previous labor experiences. Chris and I are scheduled for my induction next Monday at 6:30 am at Frye. With that being said, I hope to be holding my new daughter this time next week.

Week 38 Update

No more progress. I'm still at 2 cm and 50% effaced. My iron count is back up to normal, so no more of the nasty pills. YES!!! The doctor offered to strip my membranes, but I declined. Knowing my luck it would cause my water to break at school - not what 20 or so 4th graders need to see. She went ahead and called the hospital to schedule my induction the morning of February 2. Of course I could still go into labor on my own. She estimated Cara weighs 7 ish pounds now and will be a solid 8 1/2 at birth. I go back next Monday for a final checkup. The countdown has begun - 13 days and counting...

Potty Play / Week 37

So this does not make me a good mom. Chris's family came over on Friday night to celebrate his mom's birthday. Fun times and cake were had by all. As the boys were playing, Harris disappeared into the other room. We soon heard splashing. There was Harris up to his elbows playing in the toilet. Now a good mom would have immediately stopped him and cleaned him up. I had to take pictures and a video first because one day I can use this episode to embarrass him. Here is Harris's potty play.

Okay, now both hands

Here's the update from this past week...
Obviously since I'm writing the blog and there are no baby pictures, I'm still pregnant. Many were convinced I would have her this week. NOPE! Hopefully our first of many mother/daughter chats went well, and she's going to hang on for another two weeks. I realize most people think I'm a little crazy for NOT wanting her to come early. My friends know I have this weird date thing though - Chris and I were married on 3/13, Nick was born on 8/18, Harris was born on 9/19. Since obviously I won't be making it to 2/12, we're aiming for 2/2. With all that being said, as long as she's healthy it doesn't really matter, but it would make me happy.

For those that didn't check the blog last week, here was our appointment news. I went for my 37 week checkup this past Monday, January 12. My blood pressure is still normal. My iron count is back up to 11.3. My doctor says I'm at a very loose 2 cm dialated and 50% effaced. My cervix is extremely soft. She says she wouldn't be surprised if I didn't make it to my doctor's appointment next Monday, and it will be a miracle if I make it to Feb. 2.

We looked back at my pregnancy pictures with Nick and Harris at the same time. Chris says I look about the same as I did with Harris but am bigger than I was with Nick. Okay, that's a little scary. I was ENORMOUS with Nick. Here's a comparision for all three pregnanies. Let me know what you're thinking... My doctor wouldn't even venture a guess on weight this past week because she said I hid my babies too well. Chris is still guessing 8-9 pounds. I go back to the doctor on January 20 for my 38 week checkup.

37 weeks with Cara (I'll be 38 on January 19)

38 weeks with Harris

38 weeks with NIck (look how tan I am!)

Baby Shower / Nursery

With all the rain and wind this week, Chris and I lost a tree. Check out our fence.
On Saturday, my best friend Amanda and my big sis Shana gave me a baby shower. It was fantastic receiving things that are girly and pink as well as loads of diapers. Lots of wonderful friends helped us celebrate our upcoming addition. THANK YOU for everything!!!
We received a really cute purple outfit.

And a bracelet for Cara to wear with her initial engraved on it.

Here we are showing our pregnant bellies - Amanda is 29 weeks pregnant with her daughter, Hannah Grace.

My mom

Several of you have asked about Cara's nursery. It is almost ready. We really went all out with the pink and purple.

I even picked out a fan with pink and purple blades and flower fan pulls.

Her letters are almost finished.

This picture is for Amanda who insists that my daughter see what my body went through for her. It looks really gross, but it doesn't hurt.

Week 36 update

I had my 36 week checkup on Monday. Weight gain and blood pressure are still great. My iron count is back down, so I got fussed at for that. I found a blood clot in my bad ankle on Sunday night that the doctor is somewhat concerned about. Right now I just have to watch it to make sure that it doesn't get red or swell any more. The only thing the doctors said would really help it would be to have a baby. Even though I could safely have her next Monday at 37 weeks, they'd really like to wait. ME TOO!!! I've dialated 1-2 cm and am measuring 34 cm. Cara is turned sideways, so they told me I'm measuring smaller than I normally would (but still larger than either boy at this point). They did an ultrasound to make sure she was head down in case they needed to turn her next week. She IS head down. Woo Hoo!

I don't have a picture yet for this week, but I'll post one with pictures of the nursery this weekend.

Sibling Tour at Frye

When I was pregnant with Harris, we took Nick on a Siblings Tour of Frye Hospital to give him an idea of what was going to happen. He was way too young. So, we decided to try again since a year and a half had passed. Friday night, my parents kept Harris (we weren't even going to try to get him to sit still for the tour). The night started with us telling Nick to go put on his pjs so he could watch Spider Man. This is what he came downstairs wearing.

At the hospital, Nick got a name badge.

Then he got to change a baby doll's diaper. He wasn't too sure at first, but he did manage to get one on (with a little help). I asked him on the way home if he would help Mommy with Cara's dirty diapers, and he told me he wasn't super duper big yet only kinda big so he couldn't help.

"Look Mommy, I did it!"

While the instructor talked to the kids, Nick held on tight to his baby.

Then came the fun part. Nick got to dress up like doctor to go see the room his little sister would be born in and where Mommy would stay.

He really liked that.

"Okay mom, I'm dressed like a doctor, let's have a baby!"

After the tour, Nick got a certificate to be an official BIG BROTHER!

Happy New Year! / Week 35 update

Snuggling with Harris is a rarity now that he's all over the place. He doesn't want me to hold him much because he has so much to investigate.
Nick is in an "I'll do it myself" phase right now which is good and bad. Here's the bad... he decided to cheese his own pizza.

One of my college friends Wendy surprised us this past week. She's living in West Virginia now, and I haven't seen her in over 2 years. It was great catching up.

Big Mama playing Chutes and Ladders with the boys.

New Years Eve has changed quite a bit for me over the past years. I use to get all dressed up and party. Now it's much more laid back. Our friends the Wade's came over and instituted PJ night so we could all be comfy. The kids decided to chair surf.

Lauren was a newbie with chair surfing, but she hung on tight and quickly became an expert.

Harris was all tired out, so he built some Potato Heads. We also have the Star Wars Series of Potato Heads which included "Darth Tater", "Spud Trooper", and "Artoo Potatoo". We're waiting for Uncle Brandon to come steal them from us.

One of Chris and my New Year's traditions is to find either the nastiest or funniest labeled wine. For the past two years, it was nasty, so this year I picked out some Fat Bastard wine. It was actually decent.

I had my 35 week appointment on Monday. My iron is back up to normal. Blood pressure and weight gain good. Cara has decided to turn herself back head down and probably won't turn back (keep your fingers crossed). I'm dialated 1 cm, but the doctor doesn't think I'll be going into labor any time soon. She can be born safely with fully mature lungs at 37 weeks, but I'd much rather wait for my induction on February 2, so I can get everything ready before hand. I've been telling her no surprises for the past several weeks. We'll see if she listens. My books say that Cara weighs 5 1/4 pounds and is 18 inches now. My dad says my stomach looks like a giant boob with my belly button popped out. Thanks Daddy!

We can't wait to start 2009 because we have all kinds of wonderful things to look forward to.
